Regenerative Agriculture

Our global food supply chains are built on systems that are extractive in nature and as such are depleting our natural resources in a way that is unsustainable for the next generations of human beings. Human activities have already altered 70% of the Earth’s land area and degraded up to 40% of it[1]Food systems are the largest culprit when it comes to land degradation and they account for 80% of deforestation, 29% of greenhouse gas emissions, and they are the leading cause of biodiversity loss. This degradation is perpetuated by steep inequalities as just 1% of farms account for approximately 70% of total agricultural land[2].

Regenerative agriculture is a set of tools that can help us bring our food production systems into harmony with the earths ecosystems and regenerate degraded natural resources. The set of practices that include the active management of above-ground and below-ground biodiversity bring various economic, social and environmental benefits to agricultural systems. In contrast to intensive agriculture, regenerative tools are not universally applied across farm but instead solutions are tailored for the unique regional contexts and environmental conditions of each farm.

Our regenerative agriculture systems see landscapes, from soil to people, as one system and compel the best sustainable techniques with our research and empirical experience to develop more resilient systemS that bring immense environmental and social benefits to living environments.

We strongly believe that regenerative agriculture can feed our growing population without destroying the planet.

WHAT WE DO

12Tree provides access for professional investors seeking sustainable, profitable investments into nature-based solution projects and opportunities at large scale. Together with our partners, we combine unique, profound expertise and skills to develop regenerative assets in tropical and semi-arid climates.

Our portfolio is underlined by the 12Tree Sustainability Framework that systematically feeds into the planning, operations, monitoring and reporting of our entire portfolio. Several of our farms are certified globally renowned standards such as Verra’s Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) and the Climate, Community, & Biodiversity (CCB) Standard.
